The stone crushing operation granted by the Tory controlled county council continues to be an environmental nuisance, causing misery to residents of Swallow Park and Armscroft Estate. Long standing residents will be aware that the issues of noise and dust have blighted nearby residents for over a decade but things seem to have got worse recently with some residents saying that they dare not go outside or open windows even in the height of the summer. County Councillor Jeremy Hilton, along with city councillors Howard Hyman and Emily Ryall, met with the county council and city council officers end of May to express their concerns and to urge action. Council officers along with Environmental Health are collating evidence from residents on the effect of the stone crushing activity. Residents have also formed an action group that will keep the pressure on the authorities to act. Residents have been asked to keep records of noise and dust and send the records to julie.bettridge@gloucester.gov.uk

Gloucester Liberal Democrats have won two city council by-elections. Ashley Bowkett topped the poll in Barnwood while Sebastian Field won Podsmead by just three votes after a recount. The by-elections were held on July 25 following the death of Conservative Councillor Lise Noakes in Barnwood and the resignation of Labour Councillor Deborah Smith in Podsmead. The by-elections saw the Brexit Party, recently formed by Nigel Farage, field its first local election candidates and got comprehensively beaten. Sebastian returns to the city council having previously represented Kingsholm and Wotton for nine years until 2016. Councillor Jeremy Hilton, leader of Gloucester Liberal Democrats, said: "A Double Gloucester victory and congratulations to our two new city councillors. "Not only did we see off the Brexit Party in their first council elections, but we gained a seat from the Conservatives and the other one from Labour. "Ashley Bowkett's win in Barnwood now secures the second seat in this ward for the Lib Dems. "In

I went into politics to put something back into the community I am from and to take our country in a progressive direction. My progressive values lead me to strive to work for a fair and open Britain, which has a strong, mixed market economy, in which everyone can achieve their dreams regardless of their background. I went into politics to put something back into the community I am from and to take our country in a progressive direction. I am unapologetically an internationalist which is why I oppose Brexit and am fighting for the UK to remain in the European Union. These are very much the values of those I represent in Streatham and the same things that I stood on at the last General Election. Our country is one of the greatest in the world and has so much potential. But too many people in my constituency and across the UK face barriers in fulfilling their aspirations and people don't get the support they need. Unfortunately, we are deeply divided and unequal nation in 2019. As the fallout from the 2016 vote

The Lib Dems are calling on Gloucester City Council to adopt an ambitious carbon emissions reduction plan. Councillor Jeremy Hilton, leader of the Lib Dem group, has proposed a motion for the next meeting of the city council and is demanding that the city declares a climate emergency. The motion, which will be debated by councillors on July 11, calls on the Tory-run city council to immediately carry out a carbon audit of the authority's corporate emissions and commit to zero carbon emissions by 2030. The motion also demands that Gloucester should become a carbon neutral city no later than 2045. Councillor Hilton said: "Scientists have been warning us for decades that climate change is the greatest global threat we face. "The continuing emission of greenhouse gases and global warming overshadows every other political issue. "Local authorities are well-placed to tackle climate change and here in Gloucester it is about time the city council started to be more ambitious in its approach. "We need to do all we can
