Getting ready for the county council elections on May 1st

Our 2025 manifesto for Gloucestershire

The Liberal Democrats have launched their local election campaign in Gloucestershire with a vow to end 20 years of Conservative rule in the county.

They are promising to improve core services, support the local economy, ensure roads are well maintained and safe, and that our most vulnerable children and adults are well cared for.

The Lib Dem manifesto, Let’s Fix Gloucestershire, makes a series of pledges to improve important local services should they take control of the county council.

Voters go to the polls on Thursday May 1 with the opportunity to elect 55 councillors across Gloucestershire.

The Conservatives currently have 26 councillors, the Lib Dems are the official opposition on 16, the Labour Party and Green Party have just four councillors each and there are two independents.

Councillor Lisa Spivey, leader of the Liberal Democrat county council group, said: “Liberal Democrats across Gloucestershire are already striving to make things better, fairer, greener and more inclusive for residents.

“After 20 years of the Conservatives in Gloucestershire failing on so many of these critical issues, this manifesto sets out the Liberal Democrat vision to Fix Gloucestershire.”

Electors choosing to vote in person are being urged to make sure they are ready to vote in July by checking they have an accepted form of photographic ID.

These include:

  • a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport
  • a UK, EEA or Commonwealth photocard driving licence
  • Some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass.

Residents will be able to use expired ID as long as the photograph is still a good likeness.

But you may be required to provide further proof of identity if there is any discrepancy between the name shown on the form of photographic ID and the name the voter claims at the polling station.

Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID will be able to apply for free ID, which can be completed online at: www.voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk/ or by completing a paper form which is available from the city council.

Residents must have applied for Voter Authority Certificate by 5pm on Wednesday April 23.
