Gloucester Liberal Democrats are campaigning to save the city's council from the axe

Save the city council

The Labour Government wants to abolish district councils, like Gloucester, and replace them with a single unitary authority for the whole county.

The Conservative-run county council is pushing ahead with the plan to create a new council for Gloucestershire. Gloucester Liberal Democrats are campaigning to save the city's council.

Save Our City Council

The Labour Government and the Conservative-run county council are trying to abolish Gloucester City Council and replace it with a massive single unitary council for Gloucestershire. These plans have no consideration of history, geography or community. The city of Gloucester was founded in AD97 by the Romans and granted its first charter in 1155 by Henry II. The Mayor of Gloucester dates back to 1228 and the post of Sheriff is even older. The Liberal Democrats are doing what's best for Gloucester and opposing these plans. We back the Gloucester Liberal Democrat campaign to keep a council for the city.
