Rebecca Trimnell will fight to save Hempsted meadows
There is concern that plans to protect the cordon sanitaire at Hempsted Meadows could be challenged during the process to adopt the new city plan.
Rebecca Trimnell has vowed to fight house builders who may want to build on the meadows.
Currently they are protected because of the cordon sanitaire, which prohibits housing near to the sewage works.
The city council is due to approve its pre-submission city plan at its meeting in September.
It is expected developers may object.
Rebecca said: "Liberal Democrats will fight any attempt to weaken the cordon sanitaire. The city council has strong evidence to defend its continuation.
"We cannot let greedy developers ruin a beautiful landscape or build in an area that is to near the Netheridge sewage works."
