Gloucester Liberal Democrats welcome investment in Guildhall

The Liberal Democrat group on Gloucester City Council has welcomed news that the Guildhall is to receive £230,702 from the Arts Council, to refurbish parts of the building and to enhance its live and digital performances. The money will go towards creating a new dance rehearsal space with a sprung floor. High quality lighting, and audio equipment will be installed, and customers will benefit from the installation of superfast broadband throughout the venue. There will also be renovations to the main hall floor, kitchen and bar. Councillor Sebastian Field, Liberal Democrat group spokesman for culture and leisure, said: "Any investment in the city's cultural facilities is welcome, and this will hopefully bring many more visitors and customers to the Guildhall." Councillor Jeremy Hilton, Lib Dem group leader, said: "The cultural offer in Gloucester is okay for a small city but we know it could be better. "With renovations to King's Quarter, Debenhams and other parts of the city centre we need to make sure that w

Gloucester Lib Dems announce shadow cabinet

The Liberal Democrat group on Gloucester City Council form the opposition to the Conservative administration. Their leader is Cllr. Jeremy Hilton who has recently announced his shadow cabinet. The seven member team will shadow the Conservative cabinet until the elections in May 2024 when they hope to take control of the city council. Until then they will provide constructive opposition. Cllr. Jeremy Hilton said: "We are currently stuck with a poorly performing Conservative administration that has already had three resignations from the cabinet in recent months. They are struggling to cope and it's our job to provide constructive challenges to their policies or lack of them. We want the best for Gloucester. "There are seven of us in our shadow cabinet. I call them 'The Magnificent Seven'. Besides challenging uninspiring plans being proposed by the cabinet we shall also be working up our policies to form our 2024 manifesto to rebuild council services on taking control."
