Weed spraying halted through lack of PPE
Councillor Ashley Bowkett is quick to thank the council staff who did an excellent job in keeping many services going, even during the strictest days of the lockdown.
Inevitably some services suffered and the city council state that the weed spraying crews were redeployed to cover for those staff who were in the shielded group.
With a 14-day cycle between weed spraying and clearing, the work would normally have been completed well before the summer.
However, we now know that Amey did not have the necessary PPE to carry out the weed spraying, as the type of suits they wear were all being diverted to the NHS. Currently suits are available but in short supply.
Weed spraying work has now recommenced (weather permitting), with more PPE on order.
"We listened to residents, and we are acting to have weeds cleared," said Councillor Ashley Bowkett.
"They overhang pathways, obscure cycle path signs and street signs, and make navigating the area more difficult for cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers.
"I am also asking for strimming to be carried out at the same time as grass cutting rather than being
scheduled for another team at a later date.
"Carrying out the work at the same time is not only a greener and more effective way to operate but we would not be left with untidy areas for weeks on end."
Please let Ashley know of any further examples of unkempt weeds or vegetation, he will instruct the council to take action.
