The dirty dozen: Is this the worst pothole-ridden street in Elmbridge?

One street in Gloucester has more than a dozen large potholes down the length of the carriageway.

Every month Elmleaze, in the Elmbridge area of the city, is full of potholes and no sooner are they filled in then more appear.

At the weekend local resident and Liberal Democrat campaigner Sarah Sawyer counted 16 separate potholes along the length of Elmleaze.

The tarmac road is also breaking away from the edge of the curb in places and the surface is now full of patches from repaired potholes.

Mrs Sawyer has reported everyone to Gloucestershire County Council's highways department for repair.

"Nearly every month the Lib Dems report potholes for repair along Elmleaze," the mother-of-three said.

"There was one over Christmas that was so big a traffic cone was put in it to warn passing cyclists and motorists of the danger.

"The worst ones get patched and before you know it, more have appeared. Now a few weeks later there are more than a dozen.

"The surface is in such a poor condition that the whole length of Elmleaze needs replacing."

Other potholes in Elmleaze have been reported to highways for repair. Potholes in Nine Elms Road, Liddington Road and Lambourn Close have been fixed recently after being highlighted by the Lib Dem team.

Mrs Sawyer added: "The Conservatives boast of spending £150 million repairing the roads. There is little evidence of that in Elmbridge."
