Dr Rebecca Trimnell, who will lead the Liberal Democrat campaign in Westgate ward speaks about her ambitions for the area. Rebecca is a resident of Westgate Ward, living in the shadow of St Oswald's Priory. She has lived in Gloucester for nearly seven years and worked first at Gloucestershire County Council where she was the political researcher to the Lib Dem group. Rebecca now works as an activities co-ordinator for people with dementia at a residential home in the city. The mother-of-one teenage daughter who attends a local secondary school in Gloucester, Rebecca has a doctorate in politics and has been involved with the Lib Dems for over 20 years.

Rebecca plans to campaign on more investment in the city centre and getting a better deal from the council for Westgate ward. "Gloucester is a unique and historically rich city with so much to offer," she said. "It is a shame that the city centre has been left to languish by the Tories over the years especially King's Square. "I am pleased work has now started on a new bus station, but the city has been far to patient in waiting for this to happen. "I would like to see a prosperous and thriving city centre not a deteriorating one that has to wait years before anything is done.

"We need to get rid of lacklustre attitudes and begin filling the city's empty shops, incentivise businesses to stay and start believing in better for Gloucester. "We need to see more new housing built in the ward, especially the conversion of redundant office buildings. I am keen to protect and enhance our open spaces."
