QUESTIONS ASKED OVER FUTURE OF DOUBLE GLOUCESTER PUB
There are concerns over the future of the Double Gloucester pub in Longlevens after a planning application disappeared from the city council's website.
A planning application was submitted to Gloucester City Council for a change of use of the former pub, which closed a few years ago, to convert it to 14 flats and associated car parking.
Councillor Jeremy Hilton, who represents the Elmbridge area on the county council, has asked the planning officer why the planning application has vanished from the city council website.
Local residents have also raised concerns about the future of the footpath that runs into the car park of the Double Gloucester and links Colebridge Avenue and Merevale Road to Cheltenham Road.
Councillor Hilton said: "The alleyway it is not a county council-maintained footpath and it doesn't appear on the definitive map as a public right of way.
"I have asked that a section 106 agreement is signed with the developer, if the plans are passed, to secure the alley as a county council-maintained footway.
"It is most important that the residents of Colebridge Avenue and Merevale Road continue to have pedestrian access via this route to use the bus services from Cheltenham Road."
Councillors Emily Ryall and Howard Hyman, who represent Elmbridge on the city council, are also trying to get the street light in the alleyway fixed.
"The light has not been working for some time and residents have raised safety concerns," Councillor Hyman said.
"The county council has confirmed the alleyway is private and probably owned by the pub who could prevent access and use.
"With pub now closed we are having problems getting the light fixed. We are trying to contact the owners of the site to see if they will fix the broken light. I hope they don't prevent access."
Councillor Ryall added: "This path is well used by residents and we need to ensure it is well lit and remains open to use."
