Project wins funding to deter street drinkers in Kingsholm
A Liberal Democrat councillor has welcomed funding for a project to deter street drinkers in the Kingsholm area of the city.
The Stronger and Safer Gloucester Partnership has been awarded £10,000 to landscape the Skinner Street Triangle.
It is one of four projects across Gloucester to benefit from the awarding of £30,000 from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Councillor Jeremy Hilton, who represents Kingsholm and Wotton, said: "I am delighted that Kingsholm is going to get £10,000 to landscape the Skinner Street Triangle to deter street drinkers.
"Recently the bench was removed to leave only the brick wall to sit on. The area will be difficult to landscape as the tree roots start above the surrounding footways, but with cleaver design this should be overcome.
"The area has suffered from people hanging around drinking all day.
"I have also asked the council to consider extending the no drinking of alcohol ban to Worcester Street and Kingsholm Road."
