Petition launched to oppose Hill Farm planning application

Westgate Liberal Democrats have launched an online petition to let people register their opposition to a planning application to build a housing estate at Hill Farm, Hempsted.

The planning application has been submitted to Gloucester City Council to build 245 dwellings.

Hill Farm falls within the cordon sanitaire which prohibits housing near to the sewage works.

Dr Rebecca Trimnell, who is the lead petitioner, said: "There is a lot of opposition to further building at Hempsted that is why I am raising a petition against the Hill Farm application.

"I urge everyone to sign it. We must give the council some backbone.

"Not only does the petition ask the council to refuse the application it calls them to robustly defend the decision should the applicant object."

Lib Dem George Barwood said: "Hill Farm is in the cordon sanitaire which prohibits housing near to the sewage works. If nothing else this is a very strong reason to refuse.

"The visual impact upon the village of Hempsted would forever be blemished if the plans were approved."

Hempsted resident and Westgate Lib Dem team member Farook Mota said: "We need loads of signatures on our petition from the residents of Hempsted. The beautiful landscape that is Hill Farm must be protected."

The council has yet to set a date for when the application will be heard by the planning committee.
