MP urged to apologise over 'foreigners' remark

The Liberal Democrats have once again called on Conservative MP Richard Graham to apologise over his flippant use of the term "foreigners".

The Gloucester MP was speaking in the House of Commons on Monday during a debate on Universal Credit when he referred to the "quite high number of foreigners claiming food bank vouchers".

This latest remark comes just two months after he suggested immigrants could not use dustbins.

He has been condemned by Dr Rebecca Trimnell, his Liberal Democrat opponent at the next General Election, who called on him to apologise.

"It wasn't that long ago I called on Mr Graham to apologise for his remarks concerning immigrants and waste problems in the city," Dr Trimnell said.

"It is disappointing to hear him now claim with only anecdotal evidence that the use of food bank vouchers is high amongst 'foreigners'.

"There are a lot of people in Gloucester who go to food banks and will have problems with Universal Credit.

"It is utterly unacceptable that an MP who represents such a diverse city seems to be very good at singling out once again those that aren't deemed native.

"Mr Graham should be mindful that he serves all residents of Gloucester."
