Metz Way path resurfaced after long campaign

Last year major work was carried out along the Metz Way and Abbeymead Avenue corridor with the aim of improving 'traffic' flow for all road users including cyclists and pedestrians.

Junctions were upgraded to better detect vehicle movements, cycle paths were improved and most noticeably the left filter lane into North Upton Lane was extended.

Frustratingly the path between the Coney Hill Road roundabout and Eastern Avenue was not improved despite calls from the local Lib Dem Councillors and residents.

David Brown said: "Campaigning has not stopped and it has finally paid off as work has started to bring the improvements we have called for.

"The central kerbing on the path, which was a hazard to cyclists, has been removed and filled in.

"The uneven sections of the path are being resurfaced. Some sections of the grass verge are often badly damaged by vehicle movements and the intention is to protect these with bollards."
