LITTER PICKERS CLEAN UP GOLDEN VALLEY BY-PASS

10 Mar 2018

A litter picking crew from Tewkesbury Borough Council has spent three days clearing up litter from the A40 Golden Valley running between Cheltenham and Gloucester.
Litter thrown from vehicles has built up over time and has become a hazard to wildlife as well as becoming extremely unsightly.
In response to complaints, Tewkesbury Borough Council has specially trained a crew of litter pickers to be able to safely pick up the litter on this high speed, dangerous road.
It has taken approximately 10 people to close the lanes and pick up the litter, costing the tax payer thousands of pounds.
In day one alone over 30 bags of litter were collected which contained drinks bottles, cans, takeaway wrappers, plastic wrapping, small fly tips and even human waste.
All of which could have been disposed of at the drivers' destination rather than on the roadside.
The council is urging residents and visitors to respect the roadside and think of the impact their littering will have on the environment and local wildlife.
This cleaning operation occurs twice a year due to the sheer amount of litter on the road.
