King George V Playing Fields - to be included in Urban Greening Project

20 Jun 2018

King George V Playing Fields are to be included in an Urban Greening Project
which is designed to create/improve wildlife habitats throughout the city. It will
be run in partnership with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, The University of
Gloucesershire and the Environment Agency.
City Councillor Declan Wilson said, "The project is 50% financed from the European
Structural Investment Fund. The objective is to improve natural habitats and engage
local communities more with the outdoors. I would like to see work to create
Sustainable Drainage areas such as swales and the creation of a natural habit to
encourage butterflies and bees. There are also a few areas that might benefit from
extra trees. This is an exciting project but it's in the early stages and we will ensure
local residents are fully consulted as it progresses."
