Food donation from Crypt School will really make a difference
Volunteers at the Poets' Pantry food hub in Podsmead are over the moon thanks to a donation from the Crypt School community.
The school held a hybrid fundraiser recently, with pupils and parents able to choose between a donation of money to Save the Children or food items to the Poets' Pantry.
Councillor Sebastian Field had approached the school after the Pantry asked for donations from local organisations and residents.
"With Christmas approaching, it is an anxious time for local families," Councillor Field said.
"The Pantry have been helping increasing numbers of people this year during the cost of living crisis, and so they needed to replenish their shelves.
"I am extremely grateful to the Crypt School for this generous donation - showing once again they are at the heart of the Podsmead community."
Les Jevins, from the Poets' Pantry, said: "All the volunteers are delighted at this large donation. It should keep us going for several weeks. We are always on the lookout for more donations especially of things like tinned foods, biscuits, coffee, soup etc."
Rob Biggs, head of sixth form at Crypt School, added: "We are only too happy to help Poets' Pantry again - and hope we can organise more of these donation days in 2023."
