Cycle scheme likely to lead to major disruption
There is likely to be major disruption along Cheltenham Road as construction of the new cycle lane connecting Cheltenham to Gloucester gets underway in early in 2024.
The next stage between the Estcourt Road and Elmbridge Court roundabouts will see work starting in multiple areas at the same time.
Temporary mini-roundabouts and traffic lights will be installed and Highways recommend avoiding Cheltenham Road during this time.
The scheme is funded by central Government and managed by the county council and aims to improve health while provide a safe cycle route.
Councillor Sarah Sawyer said: “This scheme is essential to help move towards a more sustainable future, but it will cause a lot of issues for residents while the work is being done.
“We have passed on residents’ concerns to the council, and we are working with them to help make the process as smooth as possible.
“Sadly, some trees will have to be removed which we have asked can be saved but there is no other way.”
