COUNTY COUNCIL FAILING TO TACKLE POTHOLE MENACE
The Liberal Democrats have declared an all out war on potholes in Gloucester.Councillors have had enough of the numbers of potholes on our city's roads.
This winter they have appeared all across Gloucester.Roads that are particularly bad are
London Road in Kingsholm, the A38 Bristol Road and Cheltenham Road in Longlevens.
The Tory-run county council, which is responsible for highways, has a poor record in repairing
Gloucestershire's roads.
According to the fillthathole.org.uk website the county council is 118th in a league table of 214 local authorities for filling potholes - out of 2,326 potholes reported, only 19% have been filled.
In last year's county elections the Conservatives were taking such a hammering from the public over the state of the roads that they promised to spend £150 million over the next five years on highways.
"There's an £80 million backlog of repairs and our roads are as bad as ever," said Gloucester Lib Dem leader Jeremy Hilton. "Enough is enough. It is about time the county council sorted out this mess before things get worse."
