A Gloucester councillor is working to help businesses resolve a parking problem in his ward.

Councillor Sebastian Field, who represents Podsmead, was contacted by a business owner on Empire Way who said legal parking opposite their business was preventing access for customers and deliveries.

The business, which is based on the Centurion industrial estate off Bristol Road, has contacted the police in the past on days when the parking has been particularly bad.

There is very little the police can do if the cars are legally parked.

Councillor Field said: "If cars park in the area opposite these businesses, where there are no restrictions, the road isn't really wide enough for lorries to pass.

"What would probably solve this issue would be to extend the yellow lines and remove the parking opposite.

"There is plenty of other parking that customers can use as, and this is a business rather than a residential area.

"I've written to Highways and asked them to visit the site to see the problem on a typical day.

"Any traffic regulation we would request would likely take several months to implement, but I hope the Conservative-run county council will agree with me that this is a problem that needs solving.

"Supporting Podsmead businesses is always a priority for me as the local councillor."
