Councillor Caroline Courtney and Joshua Hanley are part of the Liberal Democrat team for Tuffley.

Caroline, who lives on Stroud Road near to St Barnabas Church, was first elected to the city council in May 2021. She is the cabinet member for culture and leisure.

Joshua Hanley grew up in Tuffley, went to local schools and is now raising his family here.

He is a sports coach and has helped run local football teams.

Tories sack Lib Dem Vice-Chair for highlighting lack of disabled access to County Council buildings

The SCC Lib Dem group's deputy leader Hazel Watson recently highlighted the inadequacy of access provision for disabled people to Surrey County Council buildings (see "Lib Dems get disabled access high on agenda", March 23rd 2004). The Tory administration running the County Council seem to be unhappy with being criticised for not taking action on this issue. Despite their claim to be an "Exemplar of Modern Democracy", they have removed Mrs Watson from her position as Vice-Chair of the relevant SCC Select Committee.

Local Lib Dem MEP scores TOP on "Green" votes - beating the Green MEP

Baroness Emma Nicholson, Liberal Democrat MEP for the South East, has voted in a more environmentally friendly way on green issues than even the region's Green MEP, Caroline Lucas, according to a new website set up by Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and other 'green' bodies to scrutinise MEPs' voting. The 'EU Vote Watch' selects the ten most important environmental votes in the European Parliament since the last election in 1999, and outlines how each member voted.

Negative Conservatives Have No Alternative to Council Tax

Commenting on the lack of a viable alternative to Council Tax in the Conservatives' attack document against Labour, Edward Davey MP, Liberal Democrat Local Government spokesman, said: "The Conservative election campaign looks set to be entirely negative because they have no alternative policies to offer voters."With council tax set to be the dominant issue in council elections, it is astonishing that the Tories have no viable proposals to offer.
