Councillor Caroline Courtney and Joshua Hanley are part of the Liberal Democrat team for Tuffley.

Caroline, who lives on Stroud Road near to St Barnabas Church, was first elected to the city council in May 2021. She is the cabinet member for culture and leisure.

Joshua Hanley grew up in Tuffley, went to local schools and is now raising his family here.

He is a sports coach and has helped run local football teams.

Home Secretary sees sense on deportation rules

The Liberal Democrats have welcomed the Home Secretary publishing the grounds on which foreigners considered to be promoting terrorism can be deported or excluded from the UK. Mark Oaten, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesperson said "It is good that the Home Secretary has seen sense on the deportation rules. We broadly welcome the use of powers to deport people, as long as the individuals involved have a right to appeal and the case for deportation is reasonable."

Rookery Lodge Saved

Springvale Lib Dem councillors and the Focus Team led a campaign to save Rookery Lodge home closed by the Labour controlled Council in order to create a massive 'care village' on the site. This would have been totally obtrusive to all the neighbours.

Heseltine writes off Tory chances at next election

Conservative dreams of winning the next election are doomed, according to party grandee Michael Heseltine. In an article headed "Heseltine: Tories are set to fail at next election", the London Evening Standard have reported comments by the former Conservative Deputy Prime Minister on Radio 4's Today programme, saying: "Michael Heseltine today wrote off Tory chances of winning the next election. In a devastating intervention, he warned candidates for the party leadership that they were unlikely to become prime minister."

Campaign to oppose Green Corns homes in Springvale

Residents of Woodcross are campaigning hard to stop a Green Corns house opening in their area. Mass meetings have been held and the fledgling Tenants and Residents Association has collected well over a 1000 names on a petition.

The Liberal Democrats said today that GPs should be able to arrange appointments to suit the needs of patients, not government targets. A YouGov poll revealed only 44 per cent of people asked were able to book an appointment with their GP within the 48 hour target.

A new report showing the true extent to which smoking affects the lives of people in the South East has been launched by the South East Public Health Observatory (SEPHO). The report shows the proportion of people that smoke in each Local Authority in the South East and has new figures showing the cost of smoking to business and to the NHS in the region.
