A Lib Dem councillor has welcomed the granting of planning consent for Gloucester's £85 million digital quarter.

Councillors have given consent for the first phase of The Forum, including 43 apartments and retail space in the Kings Quarter redevelopment. Work on the first phase is expected to start in the spring.

Meanwhile, detailed planning for the second phase of the development has been submitted to the council.

Councillor Hilton said: "I am delighted that phase one of the Kings Quarter redevelopment received planning permission last night.

"This whole project has the support of councillors from all three parties. Every member has been involved in its development.

"On personal note, I also want to see the city council relocating from the temporary home at Shire Hall to The Forum, when it is built.

"Now that Herbert, Kimberley and Phillpotts warehouses are being sold the city council will need a permanent home in future.

"This would be a great location next to a new car park and our bus and railway stations. A great place for a modern civic centre."
