    More than 5,000 households in Gloucester could miss out on free TV licences for the over 75s, new figures have revealed.

    Research from the House of Commons Library has estimated that 5,130 households in the city could miss out under the new changes, which are proving controversial.

    TV licences for the over 75s have been free since November 2000, with the concession received by around 4.5 million households nationally.

    Crime in Gloucester has risen by 11% in the past year and is further proof of the impact of police cuts in the city, according to the Liberal Democrats.
    Gloucestershire Police has nearly 300 fewer police officer than a decade ago and police and community support officers have also been cut by 34% since 2009.

    Gloucester Liberal Democrats have won two city council by-elections.
    Ashley Bowkett topped the poll in Barnwood while Sebastian Field won Podsmead by just three votes after a recount.
    The by-elections were held on July 25 following the death of Conservative Councillor Lise Noakes in Barnwood and the resignation of Labour Councillor Deborah Smith in Podsmead.

    Gloucestershire's police and crime commissioner inadvertently broke the law when he posed for a photograph with TV presenter Nick Knowles outside Cheltenham Magistrates' Court.

    Martin Surl was photographed with the DIY SOS star on the steps of the courthouse after Mr Knowles was banned from the roads for six months for speeding and using a mobile phone while driving.

    The Lib Dems are calling on Gloucester City Council to adopt an ambitious carbon emissions reduction plan.
    Councillor Jeremy Hilton, leader of the Lib Dem group, has proposed a motion for the next meeting of the city council and is demanding that the city declares a climate emergency.
    The motion, which will be debated by councillors on July 11, calls on the Tory-run city council to immediately carry out a carbon audit of the authority's corporate emissions and commit to zero carbon emissions by 2030.

    The Liberal Democrats have won 16 seats across the UK in the European Parliamentary elections.
    Gloucester is part of the South West of England constituency, which elects six MEPs and the Lib Dems gained two seats.
    The new Lib Dem MEPs that will represent you are Caroline Voaden and former Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood.
    Dr Rebecca Trimnell, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Gloucester, said: "The Lib Dems did well in both the local and EU elections this year.
    "In Gloucester we got more votes than either the Conservatives or Labour on May 23."
    Dr Trimnell added: "These elections show that the voters in Gloucester are tired of the same old politics and the Liberal Democrats are the liberal, progressive alternative.
    "We should believe in better for Gloucester.

    The Liberal Democrats have backed the county council's attempts to stop the police and crime commissioner's proposed takeover of the fire and rescue service.

    Gloucestershire County Council has sent the Home Secretary Sajid Javid a comprehensive case opposing the move by PCC Martin Surl.

    The council is against his proposal on the grounds that it will impact public safety, reduce the level of funding available to the service and minimise public scrutiny of decisions.
