Save Our Sainsbury's: Campaign launched to keep supermarket open

The supermarket giant has been located in Northgate Street for 50 years and the store is a vital lifeline for people who live near the city centre.
It is also well-used by shoppers who travel into the city centre on public transport from across the city.
Dr Rebecca Trimnell, Liberal Democrat campaigner for the Westgate area, which includes the city centre, has launched the petition.
She said: "The Sainsbury's store is the only decent size supermarket left in the city centre.
"There are other supermarkets in the city centre, but they are a lot smaller and do not stock the range of goods that Sainsbury's offers.
"For older people or those who do not have a car, this store is a vital lifeline for the community living close to the city centre.
"The only other choice is going to a large out of town supermarket, which could be difficult if you don't drive.
"This is why I've launched the Save Our Sainsbury's petition. I urge people to sign the petition and show Sainsbury's the strength of feeling about how vital the supermarket is to the people of Gloucester."
Councillor Jeremy Hilton, who represents Kingsholm & Wotton, added: "I worked at the store in my teenage years when it first opened, on the cheese and bacon counter.
"I still shop here regularly, and many Kingsholm residents use it as well. It would be a great loss to the community if it were to close.
"I have put in a motion to the city council to try and keep the store open. We shall debate the closure on September 24. Do sign the petition."
