Tributes paid to former Westgate councillor

February 4, 2019 5:56 PM

Tributes have been paid to former Westgate councillor Gordon Heath who died in January, aged 78.
Gordon served on the city council representing Westgate ward for two terms between 2003 and 2011.
Gloucester Lib Dem leader Jeremy Hilton said: "He was very popular in Hempsted where he lived. "Gordon has recently served the party as the president of Gloucester Liberal Democrats.
"He was a great stalwart for liberalism and I very much enjoyed working with Gordon on the city council and in Westgate ward.
"He was reliable and would always arrive early for meetings standing outside smoking his pipe before the discussions began.
"Gordon was a lovely man and my deepest sympathies go to his wife Joan and his family."
As well as a councillor, Gordon was also the church warden of St Swithun's Church in Hempsted. His funeral service took place at St Swithun's Church on January 29.
As a mark of respect the post of party president will remain open.
